BRASA is an international, interdisciplinary group of scholars who support and promote Brazilian studies in all fields, especially in the humanities and social sciences. BRASA is dedicated to the promotion of Brazilian studies around the world in general, and in the United States in particular.
BRASA organizes an international conference on Brazilian studies every other year. The most recent conference, BRASA XIII took place 31 March – 2 April 2016 at Brown University. BRASA XIV will be held at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica in Rio de Janeiro on 25-28 July 2018.
BRASA currently has more than 600 members in the United States, Brazil, Europe, and many other Latin American countries.
The organization is funded through the dues of its members and general support from the Brazil Initiative and the Office of the Provost at Brown University in Providence, RI, where the Secretariat is currently located.
